Find What You’re Looking For Fast!

Getting around and finding information you’re looking for on a blog can be easy or difficult, depending on how the blog is laid out. Yes, you can click on the category names and the tags in the tag cloud (if those are present) to zero in on what you’re looking for. However, the fast way to find what you’re looking for is to use the blog’s Search feature.

For example, maybe you want to see if I have had anything to say about conventional websites. If you look at my Categories, there’s nothing in there about conventional sites. So, you take a look at my tag cloud (called ‘Topics’ at the bottom of the page) and there’s nothing there, either. (I’m not going to tag this post with anything like ‘conventional websites’, either, because this post is not about conventional websites, it’s about using the Search feature.) But you know you read something on here once about conventional sites, so find it fast using the Search feature. It’s over there in the sidebar.

Search Tips

Search for exact phrases using quotes around your phrase. For example, using “images” will only find pages or posts where I’ve used the exact phrase images, whereas without the quotes, the Search will find my Contact vAS page, because the word image (which is a related word) appears in the last paragraph. Keep that in mind when you’re searching - there’s always a reason you get the results you get. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of learning how to ask the right question in the right way.

Use fewer words to get more results.Searching for images will return more results than capture images. The more ‘common’ the word, the more you need to include other words in your search. Be as specific as you can, and try different variations.

By the way, these search tips apply to just about any search feature you use just about anywhere, including search engines and other websites.
